Calatrava train station in Mons III

Captured the inside of the train station, this photograph transforms the striking architecture of Mons Station into a timeless interplay of light, symmetry and movement. The flowing lines, reflections and softened presence of travellers enhance the futuristic atmosphere envisioned by architect Santiago Calatrava.

In a city deeply rooted in heritage, Mons embraces mobility and contemporary design through this remarkable architectural landmark. After winning the international design competition in 2006, Calatrava was commissioned to create a new multi-modal station and its surrounding infrastructure. The spectacular gallery spanning the tracks and platforms reconnects two previously separated parts of the city: the quieter residential district in the north and the historic heart of Mons in the south.

Facing Place Léopold, the station’s southern entrance integrates a modern bus terminal and approximately 500 underground parking spaces. On the northern side, near Place de la Gare and Place des Congrès, an additional underground complex houses technical facilities and around 350 parking spaces. More than just a transport hub, Mons Station stands today as a powerful symbol of the dialogue between culture, innovation and cutting-edge engineering.
